World War I Postcards to Soldiers
This is an interesting category of cards especially designed to sell to the girlfriends of soldiers in WWI. The penant style was employed so that the appropriate city ("Williamsport") could be stamped onto the card and sold here. The mood of the messages varies within the genre: the top card is sad; the middle card proud; and the bottom card is a bit saucy.
We would be interested in seeing other cards of this type, or at least hearing about them. These are pretty rare, however, since we suspect that most recipients took some care not to have their wartime love letters preserved for future generations to inspect. Click here to email us.
